Frock planning for high tea

Seamstress poppykettle has organised a Sewcie Tea in Melbourne to gives us locals a chance to frock up, eat up and bubble up. Did anyone mention French champagne?
Poppykettle has challenged us to sew our best icing for the event. I’ve also added another condition on myself – to use patterns and fabric from the stash. The stash is large, but not really geared for icing, but this is what I’ve come up with so far…
A dress (view B of V8755 ) with a little more tailoring than I’m used to (notice how it’s high waisted?) in a Japanese cotton from Tessuti.
The dress might be a little on the plain side, but check out my proposed jacket (Kwik Sew 3781). I think a floral mane might suit me. Am I out of my mind? Please set me straight.
Are you coming? Is this outfit ‘formal’ enough for high tea? What would you make to wear to this event?
Oh go for it! Love a bright jacket with a sleek dress. The ‘mane’ should frame you beautifully.
Thanks 🙂
I’ve got that Vogue pattern too! I love your plan for dress and jacket. What gorgeous ruffles!
How am I not surprised that you also have Vogue 8755? I wonder what percentage of our patterns are the same?
I love awesome printed jackets with plain coloured dresses! There is just the right amount of flounce in the jacket to take you from lovely lady high tea to sassiest gal there! If I were going I would be getting some cray-cray 50s floral tea dress on. But that’s mainly because I want an excuse to make one 😉
Thanks. You can still make your 50s floral tea dress, take a picture or two or three, send it to poppykettle and join in from afar.
I love these combo! Cant wait to see it.
All this reassurance is working a treat. I will set forth and make…
Nice! I’m thinking of adding some lace trim, or using a full circle skirt with horsehair braid….too many option but must be eating friendly….
Lace, now that’s a good idea. I might need to find myself some lace gloves for the occasion.
You are going to totally frock it!! I too am going to make the condition that it has to be something from the stash. I have a few icing pieces that have been taking up space for far too long. I’m such an everyday sewist!
Yes, I’m an everyday sewist too! I can’t wait to see what you make. Loving your what’s on the table posts. Keep them up.
