My Australia Day long weekend…
Well, there has been lots going on over here at Blogless Anna headquarters on this Australia Day long weekend…
I’ve blissfully immersed myself in bag making. As it was my first bag (I’m excluding draw-string bags in this statement) it took a bit to get my head around things, but I’m thrilled with the results. I was pattern testing, so I can only show you a couple of design features in isolation.
What do we have here? Could it be a bag strap with loads of top-stitching?
The main fabric for the bag was Lungo d’Arancio from Tessuti (20% off at their summer sale). It was originally purchased to make an A-line skirt, but I love it as a bag. What do you think?
I’ve very pleased with my zipper pocket cleverly located between the facing and the lining. Who’d have known that zips could be so satisfying?
As well as sewing, there was also time for some family outings. Yesterday afternoon we ventured across town to swim at the Melbourne Sports & Acquatic Centre. My girls love the wave pool there.
This morning we took my Dad to the adventure playground at Hays Paddock. It was super busy, but we all had a ball… the girls playing and Dad & I catching up on life.
And to finish the weekend, in true Australian fashion, we made a pavlova. Not familiar with this yummy Australian dessert? More info here.
How was your weekend?
Did you sew, bake and/or spend time with your family?
Do tell.
I miss Pavlova! I’d almost completely forgotten about it. Sounds like you all had a lovely weekend. I spent Australia Day debating the merits of Vegemite over Marmite with my English other half. You work on the bag is so neat!
I’m of course on your side… Vegemite all the way. Let me know next time your in Oz and if it’s geographically possible I make you a pav!
The bag looks intriguing! We visited family in Tamworth and endured the fun & madness of the Country Music Festival! The girls even scored a spot on Troy Cassar-Daley’s float for the Country Music Street Parade!
I did a bit of knitting and LOTS of sleeping.
That sounds like a great weekend too. Sleeping – I’m very jealous. Lots of late night bag making for me.
I was exhausted in a major way. I slept for half of Australia Day!
What rad top stitching! And may I take a moment to gush over that fabric- it is awesomeness! And that pav looks delish- though the lack of kiwi fruit and passionfruit perplexes me 😉
The pav was for a friends birthday and the topping was to order – it had to be fruit. We made the most of berries being in season but passionfruit was the second choice. Passionfruit reminds me of my Granny. Her sponges always had passionfruit icing 🙂
Our pav lasted …ooh, about 15 minutes…between three of us! Never enough pav! Your top stitching and zipper work are impressive…a perfect bag fabric!
Not much pav left here, which is why I usually only make desserts to take out!
What is Australia Day? Like Independence Day or Labor Day in the US? Nice to have a long weekend whatever the reason.
It is a national holiday to celebrate the arrival of the First Fleet in Sydney Cove in 1788 and the proclamation, at that time, of British sovereignty over the land. More info here – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia_day
Lots of family for us!! We’re actually stuck on Mt Tamborine at my parents place. Will try and get to airport and home to Melbourne tomorrow. Lots of knitting happening.
