A bespoke Adeline

Let’s talk fabric… this linen/viscose blend includes ALL my favourite colours in an abstract brush stroke print with geometric foundations.  It had Blogless Anna written all over it!

Two of my sewing buddies – Lara and Jo – have sewn dresses from the same fabric (see here and here).

The fabric has the most divine drape and was purchased from my local fabric shop ( The Cloth Shop) before Christmas.  Now here is the sad bit… it’s all sold out (sorry).

Some dress patterns lend themselves to be shortened into a top and StyleArc’s Adeline Dress is one such pattern.

I sewed the dress version just over two years ago and at the time I got a little carried away with shortening the pattern.  I must confess the resulting dress feels a little too short for my current lifestyle and now hangs as a sample at The Cloth Shop.

These days, when I have a long shoulder seam I top stitching the seam allowances to the back of the garment.  It stops them ‘flapping around’… which is of course a technical term!  BTW my thread colour on this make was determined by having a large bobbin already wound!

On this version I like wearing the sleeves down… the pattern suggests you roll them up.  I’ve altered the pattern for future makes to take some length out of the sleeves so that the pattern (size 10) fits on 44″ (110 cm) wide fabric.  I have some Nani Iro double gauze marked for my next Adeline Top.

Did you note the inclusion of a Kylie and the MachineBespoke‘ label in my side seam ?  It’s a nod to how I altered this pattern to suit me.
