Lemons

Oh yes, it’s another Japanese cotton seersucker make from Blogless Anna.  What can I say… it’s such a wonderful fabric to sew, wear and of course I love the no ironing thing too.

Plus, I recently learned that the raised sections of seersucker create small air pockets between the material and your skin. These pockets facilitate air circulation, allowing heat to dissipate more easily and sweat to evaporate more quickly.  This is why seersucker is so effective at keeping you cool in hot weather.

If you look very closely, you can see that the seersucker is in fact in the shape of lemons!  How good is that?  I’m a quirky girl at heart.

Now enough raving about the fabric, let’s talk about the pattern.

Let me introduce you to StyleArc’s Reynolds Woven Top.  Oh yes, it a good one!

DSC_4164

I sewed this top in January and thankfully I made some notes on my phone so I can tell you…

  • I sewed the sized 10 but shortened the neck elastic by 1″ (2.5cm) as I wanted the neckline to sit close to my neck
  • I removed 1.5″ (4cm) from the length
  • I used a 1.5″ (4cm) hem allowance
  • I reduced the sleeve cuff by half and used it like a binding to enclose the seam allowance
  • I didn’t follow the diagram on the instructions and cut out the neckline ‘v’ before stitching.  Instead, I sewed the ‘v’ and then clipped into the point.
  • I top-stitched the ‘v’ to secure the facing and help everything stay in place

Will there be another Reynolds Tops… I think so.  Will there be more seersucker makes… most definitely.  In fact, a new Japanese seersucker delivery arrived at work yesterday!

  • Colourful and interesting blouse…!! 👚

  • Hi
I love the lemon fabric and the pattern you used to make the shirt . It looks fab on you!
Admired the fabric in The Cloth Shop but couldn’t decide what to make with it . You have a good eye for fabric and design that suits you 👏

  • Aaah! That seersucker function explains why my mother always dressed me in seersucker when we lived in Hong Kong!
Love the StyleArc design too – really suits you.

  • This is lovey! I’ve never seen lemon shaped seersucker before! I just made pull on pants (old V2686) and the True Bias Mave skirt with 1 tier from peach cotton seersucker. So lovely to sew. Drapy-er would be better for the skirt. A similar pattern to your blouse, Pattern Scout Poppy, is on my summer sewing list but will wait till after shoulder rotator cuff surgery which is soon.
