Night Forest
Night forest is the colour name for the ponte my dress is made from, rather than the location or time of day these photos were taken. Daylesford’s autumn leaves by the old train station are rather spectacular at the moment!
And this looking up photo… well a gust of wind meant that I was being showered with gorgeous yellow autumn leaves.
Now, back to talking about my dress. This is StyleArc’s Venice Knit Dress and it’s my second time sewing this pattern. My first version has been a great work dress and I wanted to add another version to my winter wardrobe.
The ponte is from work (The Cloth Shop) and the first roll of this colour sold out quickly, but it’s been reordered and is back in stock.
Like last time, I sewed a size 10 with a 3/8″ (1cm) forward shoulder adjustment, removed 1″ (2.5cm) from the length of the arms, change the neckline construction to accommodate my thick fabric and reduced the neckband width by 3/8″ (1cm).
This time, I also removed 1″ (2.5cm) from the bottom tier and I left off those ace pockets. Why did I skip the pockets? Well, I felt they would be much more visible in a solid colour and I was a little unsure if I could get them sitting perfectly in the ponte.
And it was third time lucky on this neckline. In my opinion, well worth the re-dos.
I constructed this dress on my overlocker, except for basting the neckline on my sewing machine before committing to overlocking, and secured the neckline seam allowance and hems on my coverstitch machine. It’s quick and satisfying sew when you skip the pockets!
This dress has worked out just as I envisaged and filled a cooler weather wardrobe gap. Happy winter days!
