All about me…

All about me…

The lovely Anne from CherryPix (did you see her recent wrap dress and the teal negroni shirt she made for Mr CherryPix?) nominated me for a Liebster Award.

I feel very honoured.  My answers to Anne’s questions are below.

1.  Do you mainly wear colours that look great on you or colours that you love? (or are they the same?)

I’m really drawn to colour and thankfully I really like what suits me.  I’ve had my ‘colours done’ a few years ago  and I was classified as a Warm Light.

2.  Which pattern have you made the most times?

Can you believe I’ve made SIX Scout Woven Tees.  In my defense, only two have been for me!

3.  What is your number-one favourite sewing gadget?

Do you know what changed my sewing life?  It was this magnetic pin caddy.  In fact, I have two – a pink one on my ironing board and a purple one in between my sewing machine and overlocker.

4.  What did you think you were going to work as, when you left school?

I wanted to be a librarian when I left school, and after some study, I was!  At the beginning it was the reference work that I really enjoyed, the thrill of the hunt when finding the answer to a question.  Kind of like detective work really!  The profession expanded soon after I started working and I transitioned into Information Management and then Knowledge Management (KM) roles.  When I left paid work just before the birth of my first daughter I was working in a KM role with an in-house team of lawyers in a bank.  We were looking at the people (their work), the process (how they did the work) and using technology as an enabler.  The last finished project I worked on was the implementation of a document management system.  In these type of big projects, I worked alongside the lawyers and the IT people, understanding enough of both languages (legal speak and techy speak!) to work as a translator.  I’ve recently returned to the workforce, and now one day a week, I work alongside my husband in his business.

5.  Which are you more into: Pattern Review or BurdaStyle Website?  I’ve joined both, but Pattern Review is where I hang out.  My member name is ajhewing.

6.  What’s your ideal evening out?  There is a fabulous Japanese Restaurant not far from home that has the best food.  When I can find an excuse, it’s expensive so one needs an excuse to warrant booking a table, I love going there with my hubby or a few girlfriends.  Yummy food, bubbles and good company is a excellent recipe for a great night out.

7.  Which sewing reference book do you use most often?

I have to confess when I have a sewing question, the first place I look is online.

8.  Are you a pattern tracer or a pattern cutter (ie: just cut the pattern pieces you need straight from the tissue)?  I’m a pattern tracer.  My bust, waist and hips usually have me in three different sizes, so I dare not cut the pattern!

9.  What’s at the top of your reading pile?  I’ve starting reading a autobiography called Deranged Marriage by Sushi Das.

Deranged Marriage, Sushi Das

Sushi is speaking at a function I’m attending on Friday and I was hoping to finish the book before hearing her speak.  No such luck…  I’m so out of the habit of reading.  Sewing, blogging, reading sewing blogs, and my children are all conspiring to make me forget how much I love to read!

10.  Public speaking or public singing (solo) – which scares you the most?  Singing of course!

11.  Which of your own sewing creations are you most pleased with? (include a pic or link, if possible)

My mustard Lilly Linen Dress is still at the top of the list.  It was this dress that got me blogging.  I was so darn proud of it I wanted to shout from the roof-tops!

Rather than nominate, because a lot of my nominees have already been recipients of this award, I thought I would share the blogs of some fellow Melbourne sewists that I enjoy reading (I hope I haven’t forgotten anyone!).  So, in alphabetical order (that’s the librarian in me!) I present to you…

And while I’m doing a shout-out about clever Melbourne girls, have you explored the Handmaker’s Factory yet?

I’ve posted some of my recent projects and I’d encourage you to do the same.  More information about this venture is available here.
