My handmade clutch
Today I attended a Purse Frame Workshop at You Sew Girl.
I started with this…
and under Nikki’s excellent guidance (and without reading the instructions once!) I fused some interfacing and fleece, cut out my main fabric (a remnant from Ink & Spindle) and the lining, did a little bit of sewing,
some gluing,
flexed my muscles with the hammer,
and made a 20cm clutch!
My fellow classmates enjoyed similar success.
What a perfect way to spend a wet Saturday in Melbourne.
I want one! Is there a downloadable pattern?
They are available in kit form – so you get the pattern and the frame – in various sizes. Several online retailers, but these two stocks the full range – http://www.stitch56.com/collections/framed-purse-patterns or http://www.voodoorabbit.com.au/patterns-kits/kits.html?p=2
Once you have pattern(s), you can buy frames separately – http://www.stitch56.com/collections/bag-hardware/products/square-frame or http://www.voodoorabbit.com.au/catalogsearch/result/index/?hardware_type=Purse+Frame&q=frames
Alternatively, I’ll be back at You Sew Girl sometime in the next week or two, so if you let me know what you want I can grab it and post it up to you.
How’s that for information overload on a Saturday evening?
I’m soooo tempted but must restrain myself. Focus on saving for London – which is less than a month away!!
Thank you so much though 🙂
I’m screaming over here! That is so cute! I gotta have one too! Still screaming!
I can hear you! LOL. I’m feeling pretty pleased with myself too!
Oh, these are adorable! What fabulous fabric choices.
Just between you and me (and anyone else reading this comment) I think I may have cut the fabric upside down! Not to worry, at least both sides are in the same direction!
Hmmm, now that you mention it….I wonder if you did! Lol. Cutting it this way gives it a lovely, delicate ‘falling in the breeze’ kind of feel.
These are too cool! I would love to make a few… and thanks for the links on where to get the supplies! Certainly makes it easier for me!
No problem. Happy purse/clutch making 🙂
Love that fabric….looks a bit Frances Broadhurst-ish….a very special clutch!
Good fabric is really the bees knees…
It was good to meet you yesterday Anna! Such a great class – I’m still so impressed with our results. (as are all my FB friends!) I’ve already had a few Vespa friends keen for me to make them Vespa print purses – must get practicing!
Hope to meet you again!
Lovely to meet you too Tracy. And yes, it was a great class. I think we’ll both be making many more of these!
It looks great! How did the denim go down?
The denim when down a treat. Lovely to bump into you on Saturday. Can’t wait to see your dress!

This looks great. Really cool fabric too x
Thanks. I’m already planning more. Just gathering all the supplies I’ll need. My Drape Drape 3 (in English) arrived today. I instantly thought of you 🙂
