‘Tis the season to be jolly

A boxy tee with box-shaped sleeves… count me in!
Pattern Fantastique is a new indie pattern company based in Melbourne and offering pdf patterns to home sewists. They launched in early November with three patterns. The Aeolian T-shirt Dress caught my eye and I used some liberty jersey from deep in the stash for this tee.
Using liberty jersey for a pattern I haven’t sewn before… I’m not really that brave readers. I took a welcomed short cut. Lara made an Aeolian Tee while we were away on a recent sewing weekend and I tried it on for size and it was perfect. That knowledge gave me the confidence to cut into my precious jersey, which next to our tree looks quite Christmas-y.
Does that smile say it all? I’m on another post-sewing high. This top was worn yesterday, and after passing the smell test, got an outing today too!
The things I love about this pattern:
- raglan sleeves
- deep hems
- the fit/cut
- it’s versatility
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, I do love a raglan sleeve. They create a looser fit, particularly around the bust, and are easy to wear and move around in.
The Aeolian Tee has deep hems which I think helps the fabric drape and fall nicely. I really took my time with these hems. I even basted them in place before top stitching with a twin needling.
I didn’t need to make one single alteration to this pattern. The fit/cut is perfect for me straight out of the box… or is that hot off the printer? This is a rarity for me, so something I cherish and celebrate.
I’ve never worn such big sleeves before, but I think the box-shaped sleeves on this pattern create some welcome drama and a point of difference.
This pattern comes with five different hem lengths – top, tunic, knee length, calf length and ankle length. A knee length dress is in my near future. The designer also recently posted a picture on Instagram of a linen Aeolian Dress with super deep hems. I’m so stealing that idea.
The Aeolian is one versatile pattern and it’s definitely got my creative juices flowing. I think I’m turning into a Aeolian groupie…

Wishing everyone a very happy and fun-filled Christmas. There will be some sewing presents under the tree for me in the morning, but this week I’ve been enjoying looking at my upcoming sewing projects. These precious pieces of liberty, linen, chambray and cotton voile are at the top of my sewing ‘to do’ list.
That is a really nice top and the fabric does go with the xmas tree, all very festive, have great Xmas with your family and great sewing in 2015. Ria in Melb.
Thanks Ria. Wishing you a very happy festive, or is that feastive, season too. I’m looking forward to my sewing adventures in 2015.
This is another winner of a top! It has a relaxed yet chic look. It must be the Liberty jersey, it has the look of good cotton! I like ragalan sleeves too!
It’s such an easy top to wear. I’ve worked out the jersey is from Liberty’s Clifton range. I’m scheming to get some more as it’s the perfect fabric for this top & I need more Aeolian’s in my life!
Beautiful top, and such cheerful and Christmas-y photos! Happy holidays, Anna!
Happy holidays to you too Carolyn.
Thanks for a happy year following your inspiring blog, Anna,

Thanks Cathy. Our Christmas family gatherings are all over & I’m already scheming what to sew next!
Passed the smell test, I love it. That’s something I would do! Lovely top, you seem to have the basic, but lovely, tee down to a fine art. Nice one!
I definitely need more of these tees in my life. I therefore think some more liberty jersey from Shaukat is in order!
