A top that really pops

Let’s talk fabric. The colours in this divine buttery soft cotton from The Cloth Shop caught my eye. After patting the fabric for a short while, and admiring the lovely drape, I knew that it needed to come home with me. Actually my biggest decision was which colourway to buy… it came in a bright green too.
I knew that the dartless top from McCall’s 6519 (now out of print) would showcase the fabric and that the drape would work in my favour. My newly finished top is just how I envisaged it. Isn’t it great when your finished garment matches your sewing vision?
As with my previous versions (yes, it’s the third time I’ve used this pattern!) the armholes and neckline were bound so the binding was visible rather than being used as a facing.
This top is a cheery addition to my summer wardrobe and M6519 has just been promoted to ‘tried and true’ status. Happy days…
Pattern: McCall’s 6519 (now out of print) top
Size: 14
Fabric: Cotton from The Cloth Shop. Orange bias binding made from cotton voile purchased at The Fabric Store.
Alterations: See lengthy list of bullet points in this post.
Accessories: Beads from Scarlett Jones.
So. Much. Love! And it comes in green? Don’t! Do they do phone orders? You look gorgeous, love the styling 🙂
Not sure about phone orders, but if you can get what you need (doesn’t that sound a little drug addicty!) let me know & I’d be happy to assist. And thanks for the compliments. Photo shoots are fun if I remember to relax!
Definitely the right decision with the orange – it’s a particularly gorgeous print!
Thanks Mel. I’m rather partial to orange these days.
It’s a lovely pattern. And the orange binding is genius!
I tried finding fabric for the binding in my stash but then realised that only bright orange would do the job!
Love your fabric, the top certainly does pop, perfect for summer!
Thanks Barbara. I did wonder if it was a little ‘high vizzzz’ but I settled on cheery & summery.
High viz did not occur to me ☺ I love color
Just beautiful!
Thank-you
Totally beautiful.
Seems funny that I’m making summery tops & you are sewing lined skirts you can wear with tights! But on the other hand we are so lucky to have a worldwide sewing community. Have a great Christmas & New Year. Any chance if snow?
So lovely! It says happy and refreshing and energetic! It’s nice that you are photographed amongst the greenery as the top really shines!
Thanks Melissa. The photos were taken at a beautiful park only 10mins drive from my house. I envisage lots more photo shoots there!
Looks great, I love the bright colours
Thanks Laura. I’m a bright colours junkie!
Wow, a very lovely top. The binding is perfect for it.
So beautiful and vibrant colour. It looks great on you and makes me a bit jealous you can sew in these colours while I’m wrapped in coats and scarves hehe!
I hear you about the seasonal differences delightfullypeculiar. Summer sewing is my favourite.
Love this! Simple and absolutely beautiful. Your posts encourage me to remember my style and sew accordingly!
Thanks Sarah Jo. Sewing to my style seems to mean lots of pattern repeats, but mixing up the fabric makes then all unique pieces so I’m at peace with it.
It’s gorgeous! You look really great in bright colours. I need to re-think about sewing repeats. I tend to want ot sew new patterns all the time. Maybe I should stop buying pattern books, 🙂
