Spring coat

At the very start of this year I added to Karen’s 2013 Sewlutions Jar… I Blogless Anna, will sew a jacket and/or coat with a lining in 2013.
I will confess that when making my Sewlution, I had a jacket/coat for myself in mind, but sometimes you just have to go with the flow…
I have to say this jacket is all about love…
- I LOVE the pattern
- I LOVE the fabric
- I LOVE the vintage buttons; and
- I LOVE seeing my girls (yes, it fits them both!) wearing it
The All Seasons Coat by You Sew Girl has just been sent to the printers (available at stockists very soon or pre-order from Stitch 56) and I think it’s a ripper! The pattern has several variations – a collar or hood, belted or not. I was a pattern tester and, due to fabric restrictions, I went with the collared version sans the belt.
I can see myself making this pattern over and over again! There will definitely be a wool version or two for next winter and if I can find the perfect waterproof fabric, a raincoat is not out of the question! I think this version makes a perfect Spring coat and to tell you the truth, I want one for myself too!
The fabric is a cotton sateen from Tessuti’s remnant table (score!) and I used every bit of the 1.3 metres on offer. The fabric was purchased with this specific project in mind, which is lucky as otherwise I would have admired it and left it for someone else to purchase and enjoy! The spotty lining is a cotton poplin from the stash.
How ace are those buttons? The very helpful Kate at Buttonmania and I rummaged though several boxes of green buttons before we came up with these vintage ones. To prove their age, the buttons came with grime! The buttons on the pockets and sleeve tabs are a slightly smaller size than the ones down the front. I enjoy details like these.
My sewlution for 2013 is complete with several months to spare! I wonder how many more jackets I’ll sew in 2013?
Pattern: All Seasons Coat by You Sew Girl
Size: Size 4
Fabric: 1.3m cotton sateen remnant from Tessuti
Alterations: None
Sewlution: my new favourite word!
It’s an ace word isn’t Cath. That Karen is very clever!
Gorgeous jacket, and I love that it fits both of your gorgeous girls. I may have to get this pattern – I refuse to walk down the street with my daughter wearing a Barbie raincoat, I’d much rather make one from some nicer fabric!
LOL. I hear you re: the Barbie raincoat. I can’t recommend this pattern highly enough. Stitch 56 pre-order has a 15% discount…
Hooray, the big reveal! It’s perfect, and I’m pre-ordering immediately. 🙂
Not quite in Bubble’s size yet, but well worth having as she’ll be fitting into it in no time! Maybe see you on Monday night?
I’ll try. John is back at work, but provided he’s home at a reasonable hour, I’m there.
Also, if you haven’t already seen, Flossie Teacakes has invented a word to describe your recent frock pattern placement incident…
I hadn’t and fauxgina is hilarious! I have a lovely piece of jersey that I want to make into a dress and realise that no matter how try and manage the pattern placement fauxgina will happen! It is obviously destained to be a top (boo hoo!).
This is a beautiful jacket. I must make more of an effort to go to Tessuti to see if I too can snag a remnants bargain.
I LOVE the remnants table at Tessuti. I visit it each time I’m in the city. Any excuse right?
Gorgeous Anna – such a sweet coat. A girl, whether big or small, can never have too many coats, can she??
Karen, you are right on the money! Jackets/coats, you can never have too many. Looking forward to seeing your version.
Oh, this is just the cutest thing! I want a grown up version for me 😉
Thanks Amanda. Wouldn’t a grown-up version be ace?
So cute. My eldest wants a jacket … I’m feeling like a bad mother now LOL
Oh please don’t feel bad. I still haven’t made Miss B a dress (it was dress number two) that I promised her for her birthday in June. Next up for me is some sewing for Mr Blogless Anna. I wonder if he’ll be a cooperative model when it comes to taking blog photos?
This is soooooooo cute! I love it! Your daughters look really sweet in it!
Thank-you. Can you believe neither of them have worn it since? Cute but already strong-minded!
Whaaaat? They just don’t know what cool is!
Gorgeous coat, & cheeky girls. Love it. Wondering if I can grade up for me, or if I should just have some kids to sew for? 😜
Very cheeky girls! I’d love one of these coats for me too. I hadn’t even thought of grading it up, but I suppose it’s possible (not that I have the skill to do grade-up!). I hope you are enjoying the sunshine and ignoring the wind today 🙂
This is adorable! And the girls too! 😉 And congrats on completing your Sewlution. I was just thinking about mine last night! It’s already August! ~Laurie
Thanks Laurie. It is nice to have that sewlution all done and dusted. I would like to sew myself a lined jacket/coat too, but that would just be a bonus!
[…] hooded, belted version of the pattern. It can also be made with a collar – have a look at the stunning coat that Blogless Anna made for her daughter! I used cotton velveteen as the outer fabric, and printed quilting cotton for the […]
This is gorgeous! I love the pattern and the print. I was just thinking today that I’d like to make a lightweight coat for my daughter out of some of this stuff

from Miss Matatabi – maybe this is the right pattern for it.
Oh Suzy that fabric is stunning. I want some for myself! And yes, I think it would be perfect for an All Seasons Coat. I say ‘go for it’!
What an adorable jacket! I could see how that pattern could come in handy in a bunch of different fabrics to make one for each season. I think I’ll have to go take a look at that pattern. Would be great for a couple of my nieces. Congrats on finishing your Sewlution early! 🙂 Happy New Year!
Thanks Danielle. It’s good to set goals and that push you a little outside your comfort zone. In the end, adding a lining to a jacket was really straight-forward. Just like my first zip and button-hole, the thought of it is actually much worse than doing it! Happy new year to you too.
[…] people try to impress. There was the stunningly simple white leather bag, a gorgeous child’s Spring coat – though the Mistress did choke slightly on the cuteness. There was even a starry […]
