More liberty madness with Gabby

One quirky liberty Gabby Dress (and I’m saying that fondly) just wasn’t enough…
For this version, I used the same liberty tana lawn print (Mitsi in green from Liberty’s classic range) for the front, back and one sleeve, the second sleeve is a contrasting print, and the neck binding another again. Are you still following me?
The Gabby Dress pattern instructs you to use bias binding as a facing for the neckline, but as I was after another pop of red to compliment the poppies sleeve, I bound the neckline so the bias was a feature.
And that yellow bar that I’m draping myself over using as a prop in these photos… it’s one of three in our backyard for our budding gymnasts and their friends to enjoy. Although, I have been known to have a go myself and the girls also recently coerced their babysitter to show them a few tricks!
Pattern: Tessuti’s Gabby Dress
Size: S
Fabric: Liberty Tana Lawn (3 different patterns) from Tessuti
Alterations: The bias neckline has been sewn on as a feature rather than a facing.
Accessories: Necklaces from Elk , bangle by Sonia Rykel (brought here) & shoes purchased at Siricco.
I love this! The ‘random’ but perfectly adorable print change up- you are my warm weather icon now!
Oh shucks… Did I mentioned Anna Sui and I are twins separated at birth but given the same name? I could only wish…
Would have been good to see you balancing on that bar! The dress is lovely, so simple shape wise but with so much personality.
I love how with sewing you can easily put your mark on a classic item of clothing. My last Gabby felt like a real turning point in my sewing journey… I now look at my fabric stash in a whole new light.
Ha, a very cute and summery dress. I love that liberty fabric.
And now the weather has gone a little cool and I’m wishing again for hot weather so I can wear my newly made dresses…
You’re sewing up a storm! I love the Mitsi print too. Glad to see you’re getting some selfish sewing in. Xx
I was spurred on by a visit from my lovely photographer friends Sharon. Mr Blogless Anna’s photos are… well let’s say… I much prefer Sharon’s. Now back to sewing skirts for the school fair.
Oooh! Hope he’s not reading this! Sharon does take lovely photos.
Me too…
That is so cute – but kind of classy too! It is a grown-up version of a small persons dress and you look lovely in it!!
Thank-you TwoToast. Being liberty and such a floaty style it’s perfect for a hot Melbourne summer.
I love this! The contrast neck binding is a beautiful detail. And the gym bars are such a great idea for a backyard – where did you find them?
Thanks Suzy. Our architect had the gym bars custom-made so that they would be sculptural too.
Gabby was so made for you. Just the right amount of quirk I think.
Thanks Amy. I have to agree. Gabby & I are besties. I’m wearing my other quirky liberty version today.
