Seeing double
Six months ago, when temperatures were much lower, I was inspired by a sample at The Cloth Shop to joined the cosy boiled wool Paper Theory LB Pullover club… and I’m very glad I did!
The sample at work is red, but I went this lovely raspberry colour from the Thredbo Boiled Wool range. And yes, I have matching lipstick!
I bravely pre-washed the fabric, without incident, in my washing machine on a cold wool cycle, as this is how I will be laundering the finished garment. At work we suggest allowing for up to 10% shrinkage for boiled wool.
Did you notice my topstitching?
Boiled wool doesn’t fray, so I didn’t finished the seam allowances, but instead opted to press the shoulder, armhole and side seams open and topstitch them into place. Sure it adds a little bit of time, but I like the look and I think it creates a more durable garment.
Due to my fabric choice, I didn’t cut the Neck Band on the bias, and I like that it both stands up and flops a bit too!
This jumper has had a lot of wear this winter… mostly styled as I am wearing it in these photos.
In fact, I wore my first version so much…
I sewed a second!
I’ve sewn linen and jersey LB Pullovers before (v1, v2, v3 & v4) and sized down and added length to the body. For these versions, I went with my current bust size and the length as per the pattern, and the fit is perfect.
I’m really happy with both these makes and look forward to wearing them again in six months… when the temperatures drop a bit.
