Scout Woven Tee: The first of many…
I’ve just finished my first Scout Woven Tee and I’m very happy camper.
The fabric is a cotton voile purchased from Rathdowne Fabrics at the beginning of my sewing career (about 18 month ago!). Confession – it came in two colour-ways and I brought several metres of both!
This top is simple, stylish and perfect for me. It’s fitted through the shoulders and falls into a loose shape below the bust (it hides my mummy tummy). The sleeves provide great sun protection, which is a necessity for a fair skinned girl enduring a hot Melbourne summer.
I can see this will be the first of many Scout Woven Tees!
The pattern… what can I say? Well drafted. A dream to sew. Brilliant!
I only made one minor change, which was to remove two inches from the length. I got a little carried away, so the hem has been overlocked, turned and sewn. My next version will allow for a double folded hem and maybe another 1/2 inch in length.
I thought you all might to admire my flat neckline (I used Grainline Studio’s tutorial) and my georgeous new necklace. Each link in the necklace has been hand beaded with hundreds of tiny beads!
Now it’s decision time. Do I continue with my ‘before Christmas’ sewing list, or set my sewing plans aside, and tackle some machine knitting projects? I think I’ll sleep on it and decide in the morning.
It’s gorgeous 🙂 But then, everything you make is! Considering the pink tones make you look fabulous, I’m assuming this fabric was matched to your colour wheel 😉
Such lovely words. Thank-you. And yes, colour wheel matching did occur. Has your colour wheel being getting a workout? I heard on the blog-vine (how’s that for a made-up word?) that you’ve been doing a spot of Grainline sewing yourself. Looking forward to seeing it and oohing and aarhing over your workwomanship (another made-up word!).
Ohhh I love this shirt… I think I need this pattern 🙂 and I’m impressed you got plenty of that fabric, it’s lovely and I adore voile!
Thanks for you lovely feedback. Yes, you do need this pattern! Actually, I think everyone needs this pattern (is that too over the top?) I’m not so subtly suggesting that hubby takes Miss A and Miss B to Tessuti this week to buy me some Liberty for Christmas so I can make another of these woven tees 🙂
Your shirt is great – and I’m so plaesed to see the ‘scout’ made up, I’m thinking of giving it a go myself.
Thanks Kathy. I can highly recommend this pattern. If you need more inspiration, Grainline has a Flickr photo pool for their patterns – http://www.flickr.com/groups/1668516@N21/
Lovely top. And the fabric is gorgeous.
What a great top – love your fabric. It looks like a real winner for summer. I purchased that pattern a little while ago and I’m so pleased to see so many positive reviews – hopefully mine turns out as well as yours 🙂
Looking forward to seeing your version Robyn. I’ve been enjoying your recent makes, but for some reason my comments on most blogspot sites end up in a big black hole! So, sorry for my silence. Happy holidays.
