Little Betty Bonnet
I purchased the Little Bonnet pattern from Little Betty Sews soon after my niece was born (11 weeks ago) as I know how hard it can be to find hats for little ones that offers great sun protection and that they can’t pull off.
This weekend I made Miss L a bonnet in the smallest size (x-small – newborn to 6 months).
My extended family gathered at a park near my Mum’s house this morning, and everyone agreed Miss L looked super cute in her new bonnet. We’re family, we’re allowed to be biased!
This pattern is well drafted, quick and easy to sew, and uses very little fabric (equivalent of two fat quarters) and you can either make fabric ties (like I did) or use ribbon.
This bonnet is a super satisfying make, and as a Mum, I’d have to say the perfect gift. This pattern is going to be my ‘go to’ baby present for all the new little girls in my life. How about you, do you have little ones in your life to make bonnets for?
Pattern: Little Betty’s Little Bonnet
Size: Xsmall (0-6 months). The pattern also comes in Small (6-12 months) & Large (12-24 months)
Fabric Outer: Lungo d’Arancio from Tessuti (sold out)
Fabric Lining: Quilting cotton from the $1 remnant bin at Spotlight!
Fabric Straps: Voile from Tessuti (sold out)
Alterations: I clipped all the curved seams on the bonnet with pinking shears and pressed the seams open.
And just in case the photos in the park didn’t happen this morning…
That is wonderfully adorable!
Thanks Lizzy.
Gorgeous – brilliant gift for a new baby girl.
I must confess I just want to make more. I tried to talk my sister-in-law into needing another (one for the nappy bag, the other for the bottom of the pram), but she declined and indicated that one bonnet for the nappy bag would be fine!
Gorgeous bonnet for an equally gorgeous baby. Love your fabric choices.
Thanks Jean. Lucky me scored some great cuddles today.
I love it! It’s my go to gift pattern too. I’m glad you got photos in the park on your beautiful niece too!
Thanks Christy. It’s an awesome pattern that I might add is a little addictive… I just want to make more and more and more bonnets! Right time to focus and get back to my pattern testing… a very cute little girls dress!
She is adorable! And so is the bonnet! ~Laurie
Thanks Laurie. We think she’s pretty adorable too!
Thanks for this post. I have to attend a baby shower in a month, and have decided I’m going to give the new mom a basketful of handcrafted items. The knit burp cloth is almost done. The fabulous handknit blanket is 200 stitches from complete. With this cap and a tote bag from Nancy Ota’s Screen Play pattern, I’ll have a gift that will capture a lot of oohs and aahs. Thanks for the inspiration.
I’m ooohing and ahhing just reading about your plans Jan. What a lucky little baby.
