#isewlation2020 : Updating my tee collection : Part 2 – Basic Tee
This is the Basic Tee (Pattern 1109) by Iconic Patterns and it’s a ripper. Unfortunately, I can’t link to it because the pattern company has removed themselves from both the internet and Instagram. I’m quietly hoping they are just taking an extended break… crossing all my fingers and toes.
I’m really pleased with this tee. It’s a unisex fit (no bust or waist shaping) without being excessively boxy. Not that there is anything wrong with super boxy tees (I love them too!) but sometimes you need a tee that will sit nicely under a jumper/sweater/jacket.
I did make a few little tweaks to the pattern to put it into ‘perfect tee’ territory. I shortened both the body of the tee by 2.5″ (6.5cm) and the sleeve by an inch (2.5cm). I also performed by usual forward shoulder adjustment. I might lower the front neckline a smidge next time.
I love the relaxed fit of this tee and I think it’s perfect for a french tuck!
I’ve since used this pattern to sew tees for both my girls and my niece. It’s been great value for money for me. Here’s hoping it will be available to purchase again soon.

On so many tee patterns with short sleeves, the sleeves kind of stick out at the end. I don’t like that look on me. Yours don’t do that. I thought at first the sleeve must be tapered. Then I saw you had shortened it. Perfection! I’ll be following your lead on future tee makes. Thanks!!
I’m pleased I have been able to help you have a light bulb moment with your tee sleeve issue.
Nice!
Sometimes those simple shapes are the hardest to draft. It’s a great pattern.
