#isewlation2020 : Hope the first

DSC_8149

Meet my first StyleArc Hope Dress, sewn in mid November last year.  I like this pattern so much, a second Hope was sewn and blogged soon after.  Thanks to rou2an1_made… I might be planning a jersey version for next spring/summer.

I sewed the size 10 as per my bust measurement and the fit is true to size.  If you are making this dress, check the finished bust measurements as it’s a little more fitted than you might expect.

I do love a pattern adjustment experiment, so rather than my usual forward shoulder adjustment, tried a high round back adjustment instead.  I used this Oliver + S tutorial and added 1cm of length to the centre back just under the back neckline.  I can safely say, that I didn’t need this extra length, and I removed it on-the-fly-by bringing in the back shoulder seams near the neckline.  For Hope v.2, I happily returned to my usual forward shoulder adjustment.

My other alterations included leaving off the pockets, lowering the front neckline slightly and binding the neckline rather the use the facings.  This last change was all about avoiding the back neck split as I always seem to muck them up (see here).  Do you have a technique that trips you up time-and-time again, or you just avoid like the plague?  Do tell.

The fabric is a cotton/linen blend from The Cloth Shop (it comes in a denim colourway too) which is the perfect weight to be light & airy but give those sleeves appropriate amounts of volume.

I’ve happily adopted (admittedly I’m a little late to the party) the midi length over the last few months and it’s now a length I feel comfortable and confident in.  I like seeing how my style tastes subtly change over time, and it definitely gives me encouragement to try new silhouettes and clothing combinations when putting outfits together.  I really think aging makes me braver in many ways.

One of the great things about getting behind with my blogging is that I can report to you that Hope v.1 has already received lots of wear and compliments.  If you have been thinking about this pattern, I encourage you to give it a go.  It’s a cracker.  Check out the #sahopewovendress hashtag for inspiration.
