Alexandra the great
I’m sharing a knitting project today. Knitting is my back-up hobby. I’m definitely more adventurous with my sewing… learning new things and taking risks, but when it comes to knitting, I just don’t seem to be able to move past scarves, cowls and beanies.
Every winter for the last [insert large number… I’ve lost count] I think this is the year that I’m going to knit a jumper, and it just doesn’t happen. I’ve even purchased the pattern in 2022 and the wool 2023!
But do you know what? I love the things I knit. They are portable projects, they are wearable and they are my favourite kind of mindless knitting. Throw in some beautiful yarn and I’m in knitty heaven!
Actually, this project might just be the queen of all mindless knits! The pattern is from Churchhmouse Yarns and it’s Alexandra’s Airplane Scarf. Although, as this blog title suggests, I have dubbed it Alexandra The Great.
The pattern is a basic one. Grab some lace-weight mohair (or similar) yarn, cast your stitches onto circular needles, join in the round and knit, knit, knit! The result is a lightweight tube of joy that is beautifully soft and warm.
The scarf can be styled several ways…
1. Wrapped around your neck
2. Knotted in the front
3. As a cowl
Putting the tube over my head was rather amusing! I’m unlikely to wear it this way… but options are always good.
I used 5 balls of Indiecita (74% baby suri alpaca & 26% mulberry silk) yarn produced by Michell for Alpaca Yarns New Zealand. The resulting scarf has a 60cm circumference and is 150cm long. I have purchased Oyster Yarn Fluff from The Purl Box for version two!
