The year 2000… or was that 1960?

Last May, Rachel from House of Pinheiro posted her yellow version of Vogue 7385 and I was smitten. I sourced a second hand copy of the pattern, which was published in 2000, but has quite a 1960s vibe.
I had two remnants (what are the chances?) of some lovely wool ponti from Tessuti and set to work. There are only four pattern pieces – a front, back & two neck facings – and a zip. It’s a relatively quick sew.
It has been a while since I’d inserted a zip, so I of course I decided to make it a design feature. I stabilised the ponti, hand basted the zip and then it took several attempts to get the top stitching to meet my expectations. Sometimes my life would be much easier if I let a few of my perfectionist tendencies slide!
I love the funnel neck and darts, but as drafted, they don’t sit well on me. There is a lot of fabric pooling at the base of my neck.
Not to worry, this top looks awesome on my Mum who has a smaller frame than me, and she’s a very happy recipient. Meanwhile, a friend with some awesome pattern drafting skills has redrafted the front pattern piece to hopefully eliminate the excess fabric. I’ll be revisiting this pattern next year when the Autumn chill is in the air.
Pattern: Vogue 7385 (out of print)

I love this, can’t wait to see the next one, I might search for this pattern, I think I have the perfect fabric for it.
Thanks Kate. Happy pattern sourcing… I’ve got a feeling it’s a tricky one to track down.
I do look forward to version 2.0!
Lucky Mum. The neckline is gorgeous. Need to find this pattern on ebay!
This top is so cool. Love the fab funnel neck and bright zip. You did well to find this awesome pattern.
Lucky mum! Love the fabric and shape and don’t ever relax your standards when you get such good results being a persnickety fusspot!
hope the redraft works for you as it’s a great looking pattern.
My frocktails pattern has the potential for a mid chest fabric puddle, so I might be picking your brain there…
