Simplicity 1366 : A letter & photographic study

Dear Readers
I just have to tell you that Simplicity 1366 (the top) is a gem of a pattern.
It’s quick to sew, easy to wear and can be sewn in a variety of fabrics.
My latest version (first version here) was made from ponti, I didn’t finish my seams (rebel), the neckline is folded over and top stitched in place and I extended the sleeves to three quarter length.
A gem of a pattern I say… a gem.
Love Blogless Anna
Pattern: Simplicity 1366 (top)
Size: 10
Fabric: Ponti from Tessuti (sold out)
Alterations: Lengthen the body by 1 inch (2.5 cm) and the sleeves by 4 inches (10 cm).
Accessories: My scarf was a gift & boots are from Scarlet Jones.
It’s a fabulous top. That ponti is lovely. I’ve just jumped on the 1366 bandwagon, what a great pattern it is. X
I already have two more 1366’s cut out, but I will probably wait for warmer weather until I sew them up.
You’ve convinced me! I’ve had my eye on this pattern after seeing it pop up on a few blogs. Next time theres a Simplicity sale I’m going to nab it!
It’s a great pattern Kate. Some others have had success with the singlet too.
Fab! Such a great colour on you. Dammit I should have got it from spotty over the weekend….. Did come home with a jumpsuit pattern though so all is not lost I guess….
A jumpsuit pattern. You are braver than me… Can’t wait to see it sewn up.
Looks great Anna! Funny, I Googled up the pattern and the cover is all about the (somewhat crazy) skirt, and the top is kind of a by-the-by, but the vast majority of image search results are of people’s versions of the fab top!
I know, it’s funny how the top has taken off. I’ve seen a few versions of the singlet too, but NO skirts.
It’s good to see patterns made up so that you can imagine the possibilities that you don’t get just from looking at the pattern envelope.
I agree Anna. I often sit on the fence about a pattern until I seen several versions that I like and that I could see myself in (the latter being a very important factor!)
Short and sweet, and all about those gorgeous photos! Love the letter. If my local Spotlight ever has it in stock again I will get it. Cannot count the times I’ve tried, both on sale and full price, and alas there is naught. Seriously, great pattern xxx
Sometimes (but not often) I don’t have much to say…
Good things come to those that wait. I discovered that at Clegs in Melbourne if they don’t have a pattern during a sale they will order one for you and you just pay sale price and $2 for postage and they send it to you. GOLD!
Interested in how this differs from the other set in sleeves top patterns?
Great fabric choices.
Good question Jenny. The pattern has slightly drop shoulders, it can be made in a woven or knit, and it sits well without bust darts. The style is cropped, but it’s easy to add some length. I think it really just comes down to great drafting.
Love the fabric choice, and the sleeve length is clever for cooler days – and the best thing of all is, I already have the pattern (not yet used), so I don’t have to sneak another pattern into the house!!!
I totally understand Janette, and yah for pattern and fabric stashes!
[…] 1366 is really doing the rounds of the sewing blogosphere at the moment. Anna has just blogged a beautiful version (that I was very tempted to steal when we were at Sewjourn until I remembered that she sews a […]
This is a lovely top that works well with your style. The fabric is very nice too.
Thanks Jean. With a pattern that was both vertical and horizontal I had to be very careful when cutting it out my fabric. It was well worth all the effort.
Short and sweet. Looking good Anna
It’s hard to believe that I sometimes don’t have much to say… but it’s true!
A gem indeed! Love it when I hit gold with a great pattern!
This is definitely a tried and true pattern. I need more of those types of patterns in my life!
