Pixels
In the depths of winter, I sewed a shrug… but really it’s the perfect spring layer.
The shrug is loosely based on a Japanese pattern (which I’ve sewn twice before) from the Me May series of books.
I said ‘loosely’ as I fudged the dimensions a little in an attempt to match the pattern repeat (which you might notice in the photo below, I clearly failed at!) and left off the arm bands. For the sleeves openings, I folded over the seam allowances and stitched them in place.
I used satin bias binding to finish all the raw edges and hem the garment. Neat innards give me a ridiculous amounts of joy.
A simple design, some statement fabric (it reminds me of pixels!) and I have the perfect a layering piece for our current changeable spring weather.
Pattern: Pattern No 4 from May Me (Japanese pattern book)
Size: One size
Fabric: Wool blend from The Cloth Shop and purchased satin bias binding from The Cloth Shop too.
Alterations: Left off the arm bands and bound all seams.
Accessories: Scarf from Scarlet Jones and boots from Florsheim
Location: Ballarat Train Station
Lovely, as usual!
Thanks Lodi. I appreciated your kind words.
such a fun fabric (my favourite colours ;o)
I’m usually very anti any blends with polyester in them, but with this print and colourway… well I just had to have it regardless!
That is a smart layering piece! 👍🏻👍🏻 as always!
Melbourne still hasn’t got the memo that it’s spring and it should be warmer. Layering pieces are the key and this is a handy one to have in the wardrobe.
Loving that fabric Anna and what great colours on you! I’m not normally one for a shrug because I always feel like they restrict my overhead action, but it looks so fab! Great use of that fabric.
Thanks Jillian. It was nice to buy a piece of fabric, sew it up straight away and to start wearing it.
Such great fabric! And beautiful innards! Win win win!
Thanks Sarah. Those innards were surprisingly fun to sew. I can see myself using this finish again.
