Out of the naughty corner…
Long term readers would know that I am a recovering perfectionist, and in particular I pride myself on having the neckband tension on a tee ‘just right’. And that Goldilocks of neckbands, it’s not always an easy thing to execute.
This tee spent more months than I care to remember in the naughty corner. When I was initially constructing it, I couldn’t get the neckband right. Third time lucky didn’t even apply!
But a few weeks ago, when I decided to tackle the messiest room in our house, which is the storage location for all things sewing and knitting, I uncovered this tee that just needed the neckband re-done and the hems coverstitched.
Clearly enough time had passed that this task felt achievable. And let’s face it, a task more interesting than cleaning out a messy room!
I have to say I’m very pleased with this tee… which actually isn’t a tee pattern. It’s a shortened Blanche Knit Dress with the hem shape borrowed from the Gem Knit Tee.
Why the delight? Well, this pattern has upper bust darts that give me the perfect bust fit. I went down a dartless full bust adjustment rabbit hole on the last fitted tee I made myself in 2022, and it wasn’t a complete success.
I’m not sure I’d want a bust dart on a plain coloured tee, but for anything patterned (but not striped) this will be the tee pattern for me!
The fabric is from work and part of the Ashby Jersey range. This print is sold out, but there are others to choose from.
