Textured shorts

I’ve come to the realisation that although I love seeing others wearing patterned bottom halves, they just aren’t for me.  Even the Hip to be Square Hudson Pants I sewed last June rarely leave the house.

I might not do patterned bottom halves, but I do love a bit of texture, so when I spotted this textured Lithuanian linen at The Cloth Shop on a hot day I instantly thought shorts.

Megan Nielsen’s Reef Shorts is TNT pattern for me.  I love the elastic waist (I rarely tuck in my tops), the shaped hem and the overall fit.

Speaking of fit, I have previously made the following adjustments to this pattern:

  • Left off the pockets
  • Removed 3/4″ (2cm) from the width of the back pattern piece & hem facing
  • Added 3/8″ (1 cm) to back side seam tapering to nothing at the hips
  • Altered the waistband to reflect those changes
  • Slightly lengthened the crotch curve.

This is my third pair of Reef Shorts (see versions one and two here) and I think that the shorts section of my wardrobe is now complete.

I have a strict in and out policy when it comes to clothes.  When a new item enters the wardrobe, another needs to leave.  In this case, one new pair of well fitting shorts are added and two pairs of ill fitting RTW shorts have been donated to the charity.
