Spotty or dotty?

I’m not sure if this dress is spotty or dotty, but I do know that when I wear it, I feel fabulous!

StyleArc’s Adeline Dress isn’t a new-to-me pattern.  I sewed my first version about 12 months ago, and although I still wear that dress, I don’t love it.  Unfortunately, I sewed it up a medium weight linen (which on reflection might actually have be a linen/cotton blend) and this pattern really requires fabric with some drape.

In stark contrast to my first version, my second Adeline was sewn in a divine Japanese blend – 70% rayon and 30% linen.  Not only does this fabric have great drape, it doesn’t crush every-time you look at it!

The things I love about this pattern:

  • The neck & hem facings, including the fact that they are top-stitched
  • The v-neck
  • The casually rolled up sleeve cuffs
  • It’s a sack dress with shape!

The changes I made to the pattern:

  • Removed 2″ (5cm) from the length
  • Eliminated the centre back seam
  • Left off the patch pockets… I’m notorious for not adding pockets to my makes!

This dress is a very welcome edition to my summer wardrobe as it can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion.  I’m now trying to justify buying more of this fabric in different colourway… I wonder if my heart or my head will win that battle?

  • I live in Camberwell and recognised the background ! Pleased you are happy withyour second making if the dress. Looks terrific on you! I spent today sewing a silk wrap around skirt for my 6 year old grand daughter. Fabric was a Collette Dinnigan floral print. Very pretty. I made a dress for a doll first then have made the skirt to match the doll. Must get some photos, I copied a wrap around dress I saw in Witchery and it’s first time I haven’t used a pattern. Very happy with Doll’s dress and the skirt.

    • We knew the mural was near the Camberwell Market (thanks to Instagram) but it did take us a few minutes to find it! It was worth the trouble as it was the perfect backdrop to my spotty dress. And what a lucky granddaughter you have! A swishy silk wrap skirt sounds dreamy.

  • Gorgeous!! Love the Adeline pattern. What fabulous fabric!

  • Really, really nice. And I’m saying that about a cocoon dress! (Body appropriate for my waistless body!) Yours is the first I’ve loved, and I think it’s the drapy fabric combined with the perfect length. More than just a peek of knee to balance the dress shape as well as the dip in the back hem. PERFECT!
Wear it happily and in good health in 2018!

    • I always love to hear from fellow waistless sewing buddies. This is a great pattern and I think I got the pattern/fabric combo perfect this time. Wishing you good health and fun times in 2018 too.

  • Oh I am glad you revisited this pattern. This version is simply perfect!

  • Love it, hope to try it on in a million years time! 😉
