#isewlation2020 : The Aeolian edition

Those who have been following my blog for a while know that Pattern Fantastique’s Aeolian Dress/Tee is my favourite pattern ever.  Over the years I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve sewn this pattern.  During lockdown in 2020, you won’t be surprised that I revisited this pattern three times.  I sewed two dresses and a tee.

Dress 1 was sewn from a gorgeous giant seersucker in a mustard colourway.  I used a cream viscose binding for the neckline and cut the sleeve on the bias to avoid pattern matching.  The trick with this fabric is to use the tip of your iron when pressing and ensure that any of your hems end on the crinkly sections rather than the ‘pilows’.  At times you just need to go with the flow and sew a few tucks here and there!  This is the perfect pattern for statement fabric.  Did you notice that I dressed like a crayon?

Dress 2 was sewn in a heavy-weight linen purchased in Paris is 2017.  I do enjoy a fabric souvenir… even if traveling overseas seems like a distant memory that won’t be repeated in the near future.  I used some leftover fabric, purchased at the same time, as a back facing for a sneaky bit of contrast that only I’ll see. Both this dress and the dress above were sewn in a size medium… which is a size larger than my usual as I wanted slightly oversized dresses.

My Aeolian Tee was sewn in a cotton/elastane knit from Stof fabrics.  This particular design has sold out, but we have lots of different Stof knits available at work.  I really love the quality of these knits and the variety of their designs.
