Restash 2020 : Melboune Fabric Swap Event
For those feeling a little overwhelmed or underwhelmed by the state of their stash, we invite you to join us at the fifth annual Restash (Melbourne).
What is a Restash? It’s a fabric, notions, yarn, pattern and handmade clothes swap… the chance for people to give-away items that they no longer have a need for (destash) and for fellow crafters to take home items that inspire them (restash). This is a free event, but we do ask that you bring at least one item to swap.
DATE: Saturday February 15th
TIME: 2pm – 4pm
LOCATION: Fairfield Community Room (opposite Fairfield Library – 121 Station Street, Fairfield)
RSVPs: Not required
Bring your unwanted fabric, notions, yarn, patterns and handmade clothes. Can you please bundle fabric and label with type (if known) and metreage (width and length). We will have a section just for fabric scraps (hooray!). Fabric scraps will need to be at least 30cm x 30cm and will not require bundling or labelling. Please bring hangers for any of your handmade clothes that need a new home… we’ll supply a clothes rack.
Browse while chatting with fellow crafters.
Rehome anything that takes your fancy. At the conclusion of the day, excess items will be donated to charity.
And those who want to make a day of it, there are several nearby sewing retailers…
Cutting Cloth – 282 Wingrove Street, Fairfield (walking distance from the Restash venue)
GJs Discount Fabric – 31 Steane Street, Fairfield
The Cloth Shop – 47 Lower Heidelberg Road, Ivanhoe
Darn Cheap Fabrics – 115 Burgundy Street, Heidelberg
What a great idea! Unfortunately, I live on the other side of the world. But maybe I can organise it here too. Thanks for the idea.
If you do decide to go ahead, I’m more than happy to give you some pointers to how the fabric swap works.
oh bother! will be in Bendigo on that day. Coming over for Chicago and great grand-daughters birthday. Will have to arrange my trip from Tassie better next year. Enjoy the day.
Hopefully next year the planets will align.
If we have fabric on big bolts should we cut it into lengths and bundle it or just bring the bolt? <3
Just bring the bolt. It sounds very generous of you.
Thanks so much for holding this – was such a pleasure seeing the fabric I bought disappear. Will do a bigger cull next year!
I love organising this event that seems to bring so much joy to to so many. We’ll definitely do it again next year!
