2013 in review – the hits

My year in review continues with my top 5 hits…

Top 5 of 2013 - An Annual Blog Series

1)  Briar sweater & t-shirt pattern (version 1 & version 2)

Reason:  Wearability.  My Briar jumpers were on high rotation all winter and into Spring.  I’m not usually a ‘trend’ kind of girl, but I jumped on the high/low hem band-wangon and discovered a pattern that I love and a figure flattering shape that I will continue to wear in years to come.  I altered this pattern so that the hem is halfway been the full length and the cropped version and found a length that ‘works’ for me. I don’t think I’m done with this pattern yet!

2)  Antia Ponti Pants

Reason:  Wearability/Speedy Sew.  These pants are super comfortable, warm, quick & easy to make.  I wore them a lot during winter and I look forward to reconnecting with them in Autumn/Winter 2014.

3)  Hemlock Tee

Reason:  Wearability/Style.  This slouchy boxy tee is just my style and as soon as it was released by Grainline Studio (it’s a free pattern with online instructions) I printed the pattern, taped it together, cut out my fabric and overlocked my new tee.  I also made a Hemlock for Miss A’s teacher as an end of year present and it was a big hit.  There will definitely be more Hemlock’s in my life.

4)  Lola Tee

Reason:  Wearability/Figure Flattering Tee.  A recent make but it gets worn, washed and then worn again.  I’m hoping to make another one today and I have a Lola Dress planned too.

5)  Sleeves Lily Linen Dress

Reason:  Wearability/Comfort/Style.  This is the perfect dress for hot summer days and when I put it on I feel stylish; a bit fancy-pants!  As Sew Busy Lizzy commented on the original blog post it’s “Very very Anna!”.

In summary, my hits are all items that fit my style, are comfortable and that I’ve worn and worn and worn… and will continue to wear.

Before I head off to my sewing machine, I’ll leave with you with a couple of notable accessories – my silk scarf and Belle Bag – that have also been on high rotation…

  • You have certainly cracked your Anna Style code… I still feel like I’m floating in never-neverland with my sewing style… Lucky you!!

    • I’m pleased that my style is coming together. It’s been such a learning curve and what journey is complete without some highs and lows. I have a dress planned for Jungle January which will be a bit of a style experiment…

      • Oh that sounds interesting. I’m thinking about jungle skinny pants… but I have so many things on.
I’ve just made my first muslin from the Drape Drape book. So proud of myself!

  • I have been inspired by your style posts and recent makes to take a look at my style and sew along those lines. I get a lot of wear out of my basics and love that I can whip up an everyday top from my stash without leaving my house and dragging my three small children with me! Can’t wait to see what you sew in 2014!

    • I think you can safely say I love a basic too! Another Lola came to life this afternoon. Thanks Sarah Jo for all your wonderful comments this year. It’s people like you who make blogging so meaningful. Catch you in 2014!

  • Anna, those are all ABSOLUTE hits! You really have worked out both what you like to wear and what you like to sew. It’s been such a pleasure sharing the sewing year with you.

  • I’m afraid my Hits list is entirely for the kid’s and the Misses list is almost entirely for me! I’m impressed by what you’ve done for yourself this year! Congratulations

  • Your hits look great! And I love your scarf and bag at the end… You have a great sense of style and I love seeing what you make!

    • Thanks Laurie. I enjoyed writing my hits and misses posts. I’ve two new items that were finished yesterday and this morning that I will hopefully get photographed in the next day or two. I find the photos are the tricky part of blogging!
