A sunki dress on the go…

A long, long, long time ago, I brought some gorgeous Japanese cotton from Tessuti and the pattern for Figgy’s Sunki Dress, with the view of making Miss A a stylish new frock (like below).

It’s been one of those project that’s been sitting and waiting patiently.  Well, that was until yesterday, when I attended a social sewing class at the Handmaker’s Factory.  Sunki was my project of choice, as I could foresee needing help (thanks for your assistance and reassurance Nicola!).

It was a great four hours, of sewing and chatting…

The Handmaker’s Factory share studio space with Ink & Spindle, who design and produce ethical, sustainable & organic textiles.  Ink & Spindle hosted an open studio yesterday, and as I was fusing interfacing, I watched a print making demonstration and listened to Tegan and Lara’s detailed explanation of the process.  It was fascinating and I just love the fabric they printed yesterday.

The fabric was a custom colour print run, but other designs and colourways can be purchased in Ink & Spindle’s online shop.

Abby Seymour, who also shares the studio space, had lots of ‘wares’ on sale too.  The ring pictured above was a perfect fit for my finger and my current love of orange and yellow, so it came home with me!  Interested in seeing more of Abby’s work?  Her online shop is here.

What a fun and inspiring day!
