Handmade Gifts – Dolls Blankets

Handmade Gifts – Dolls Blankets

I love the idea of handmade gifts and new outfits for Christmas day, but I try not to have too many expectations of myself, as to be honest, who needs stress at this time of year?  I did however think that I could easily whip up a couple of machine knitted dolls blankets for my youngest daughter (Miss B) and my niece (Miss F).  I totally under estimated how much it would take, but I’m really pleased with the outcome!

Miss B insisted that her blanket included the following colours  – sweatpea (purple), holly (red) and rosebud (light pink) – from the Bendigo Woollen Mills 3 ply classic cones range.  So the idea of a striped blanket was born.

These blankets were time consuming because:

  • There was LOTS and LOTS of swatching
  • I taught myself a new technique and was practicing lots of newly acquired ones
  • I made up the pattern myself – thanks for all your invaluable advice Brianna
  • I’d forgotten how time consuming the finishing is – weaving in the ends, washing, blocking and pressing (steaming flat).

The finished blankets are 15.5 inches by 17 inches and have been made to fit an Ikea dolls bed.

Dolls are much easier to photograph than my daughters!

Wishing you all a very happy holiday season.

  • Nothing worthwhile ever took a short while to do. These are just gorgeous – she did well choosing the colours. So bright and cheerful! Merry Christmas Anna 🙂

    • Wise words Melanie. And yes, Miss B does have good taste in colours. If I’m allowed to choose her clothes for the day (a rare occurrence) I’m often told what I selected isn’t ‘pretty enough’. Merry Christmas to you too.

  • I love the colours your daughter has chosen and all those hours of work will be worth it – i’m sure those dolls blankets will be used (one way or another) for many years to come.
